Matt Strawser
The model of a deacon is given to us in the Bible as complete service to others by being obedient to our Lord. Stephen gave his life as a sacrifice for that service. My calling I believe demands no less.
My name is Matt Strawser a deacon here at Grassy Valley Baptist Church and a bondservant of Jesus Christ. My story started when I received Christ as my savior in 1988 under the conviction of the Holy Spirit and a little white book titled 88 ways Christ will return in 88. I grew up in Ohio going to church on a bus every once in a while on Sunday. A Sunday school teacher shared the love of Jesus with me but it wasn’t until I was 19 years old that I prayed to receive Jesus into my heart under the guidance of my pastor at that time Mark Pyles who is still active as a pastor in the church today. In 1998 I followed the calling to dedicate my life to the service of the Lord, in the church I have done simple jobs as an usher, and greeter, to sweeping floors. A few years back I was ordained at Grassy Valley Baptist Church. My wife Pam and I believe this church is family and like home.
I graduated from Carson-Newman University with a BA in Religion with an emphasis in biblical studies and a minor in sociology, a MA in Applied Theology, and MS in Clinical Mental Health. I work as a therapist in mental health hospital. Pam and I have adult children and wonderful grandchildren.
